Time and the Evolution of Power
Time given to the quest for power has been evident this week as Senator Spectre changed party affiliation in order to stay in power.
This is not the real issue, but is an example of the pattern set by politicians in Washington D.C. It has long been the practice of our politicians to remin in office, in some cases, until they either can't walk to there desk because they are so feeble, or they die in office.
This is not the original intent of our founding fathers. Service in the legislature, or the bureaucracy were to be temporary assignments, not lifetime jobs. It is a travesty for our government to have lifetime memberships to this club. This practice has done great harm to our Nation. It would be of great value for Senators and Representatives to have term limits. It would give this Nation a chance to be represented by temporary workers rather than lifetime members who lose touch with reality. When congressmen know they only have a short time to serve, they have to keep in touch with what is happening outside the walls of congress, because they will have to go back to work outside of government after their terms are completed. The evolution of power has shifted to the halls of congress rather than the homes of the people who hired them because we the people have abrogated our responsibility by blindly voting in the same old relics every election cycle. I am not writing this to get one party in and another out. There are relics in both parties which have been there too long. Let's take time to consider who we are voting for in 2010, and if that person has been there too long, vote him or her out and put someone in office who will listen to you, John Q. Public.
